Since 1964, Bishop Carl Nine has been an active witness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. His first public
ministry was sharing the gospel to jail inmates. During his years in the US Navy, he served as
lay chaplain while at sea aboard a submarine, leading men to Christ while in the depths of the
ocean. Following military service, Carl Nine completed a bachelor of science in history at
Northwest Oklahoma State and earned a master of divinity from Southwest Baptist Theological
Seminary. While a student, Carl was an active member in local churches—preaching and
teaching and sharing Christ.

Carl Nine began full-time ministry as an associate pastor at Arlington Christian Center. During
those years he was also privileged to work on the Majority Text of the Greek New Testament,
published by Thomas Nelson Publishers, and on the production of a Bible for missionaries to
Southern Sudan. In 1979, Carl Nine joined the full-time teaching staff at Christ For the Nations
Institute, Dallas. In 1982, he accepted a position as associate pastor at Portland Foursquare
Church where he served for the next five years. Then thirty years ago, he founded the church
he currently pastors, Rivers of Life. During the first twenty years he produced Psalms Alive—a
one-hour radio program that covered the northwest in praise and prayer at five AM every day.
Carl has always had a world vision, to see the gospel preached to the nations. While at CFNI,
he led students on the first CFNI mission outreaches, one to Jamaica and another to Trinidad.
He has been privileged to personally minister in more than a dozen other countries: Guyana,
Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Israel, Nigeria, Thailand, Nepal, India, China, North Korea, Japan,
and Pakistan. Often he has taken others on these trips, sharing with them the fire for world
evangelism.

Carl Nine resides in Portland, OR, with his wife Alice. They have been friends and supporters of
Pastor Anwar Fazal since 2004
